Am slowly chewing my way through English Literature in Context. What? I've haven't read most of it yet.

Was that the big red one? It seemed like a history book to me. I couldn't get into it. The Oxford Book of American Short Stories is more my style, but before I can get into it I've got three plays and a novel to read for next week. Yay!

Not really crazy. I enjoyed studying Coleridge's life in Lit. in Context 2 last year. He became a depressed alcoholic during his college years and joined the army. His brother had to bribe an officer and claim he was insane to get him out.

Has anyone read Beasts of No Nation by Uzodino Iweala? It's a first person coming of age narrative about a child soldier in west Africa. It's a very dark subject matter but it's really affecting and the narrative voice is amazing.
